I tell ghost stories in
paint and mixed media. My work blends figurative and abstract elements. The faint images I
see emerging from an abstract background often determine the story of the completed
painting.
I see the world as a living internal
narrative landscape. When I look closely across my landscape, I see the images of mask
wearers and ghosts and lost children trying to find their way home.
I work intuitively and spontaneously,
embracing the art of fouls to bring the contradictions of anger, sadness and a
fiercely protected shred of hope to my art. I rarely know where a piece is going, but I
know when we get there.
In painting Geppetto, a moment came when
I stepped back from the unfinished canvas and knew the face of my father. So there
you are, old man. So thats where youve been hiding.
And then, like a good son, wanting to be
a real boy, I finished the painting.
